    Danish writer/artist duo Mikael Wulff and Anders Morgenthaler create comedy cartoons and graphs depicting the everyday struggles, irritations, and insights of their fellow Westerners. Official-looking graphs show unofficial statistics from our daily lives that are at once unexpected and glaringly obvious. The duo publishes their satirical creations every day on Wumo, their webcomic and newspaper cartoon strip (formerly known as Wulffmorgenthaler). Their cartoon career started in a comic strip competition in 2001. Their victory gave them the opportunity to be published in Politiken, a national Danish newspaper, for one month.

    Things continued looking up when their strip became very popular and became a regular feature in several blogs and newspapers in Scandinavia and Germany.     • The first ever London-wide campaign to end sexual harassment on nights out launches today, backed by some of London’s most high profile venues including Ministry of Sound and fabric.
    • Posters informing patrons of zero-tolerance approach now displayed in bars, clubs and venues across the city with staff resources provided by anti-harassment group Hollaback London

    Julia Gray, co-director of Hollaback London, the group behind the campaign, says  “Groping, bum-slapping, and sexually aggressive behaviour are all too common aspects of night outs in London. We started this campaign because so many women and LGTBQ people submit stories of harassment and even assault in clubs and pubs to our website; and these experiences are now so commonplace that they’re actually putting people off going out altogether.

    We’re challenging our nighttime economy to create safer nights out for all their customers. Taking on our up-front, coordinated approach means sending a public message that this behaviour won’t go unchallenged. We’re completely independent and are encouraging everyone to tweet their experiences on #goodnightout so we can ensure the pledge is put into practice.”

    Endorsed by End Violence Against Women Coalition and Everyday Sexism, Good Night Out signatories working closely with Hollaback London on their harassment policies already include:

We asked YouGov to survey London women in 2012 about their experiences of sexual harassment in public places and found that almost half of younger women had experienced it in the last year. Clubs and pubs have a critical role to play in making their spaces intolerant of this behaviour. We wish the campaign every success.”

    Twitter is still hugely popular in 2014, and the more followers you have, the more you are looked up to and seen as an authority. However there are other factors that are at play when attempting to get more twitter followers. Don’t just assume that because you have 2,000 followers on Twitter that your business will boom. You need to get the right followers and do the right things to get more Twitter followers that will actually be a benefit to you. Don’t get fooled into just adding bunches of random people and hoping for the best.

    7 Ways To Get More Twitter Followers Easily

    1. Don’t Be A Selfish Tweeter. Even though you most likely signed up to Twitter to help grow your business or network of colleagues, don’t just toot your own horn in every post. None of the biggest stars on Twitter do this. Sure you can plug your own services and products from time to time- but don’t talk about yourself in every tweet. Unless you are Brad Pitt, people don’t really want to hear constant stories about your life and it won’t get more Twitter followers for you.

    2. Mention Other Users Directly. When you send out a random Tweet, nobody takes as much notice as if the Tweet was directed at them personally. When you fire out your next Tweet, don’t think about how you can get more twitter followers, mention somebody else in your message with the @ function and thank them or recommend their product, or just tell them something. This is a great way to get more Twitter followers. This also has two benefits – first is that it shows your followers you communicate with others and are friends with people more “Twitter fabulous” than you, second, it gets you some good connections which is what Twitter is really good for.

    3. Don’t Cry Online. Unless you are in the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, nobody really wants to really read emotional or dramatic posts. The business world is one where only people who are positive and optimistic can survive, and if people see that you are a negative influence even in the slightest, they will cut you off. On the other hand, don’t be one of those people always proclaiming love and happiness from the deity of choice and over the top with spirituality – give people something useful or thought provoking to read. Focus on contributing to the world and you will naturally get more Twitter followers.

    4. Be A Walking Billboard For Others. When you find something that really interests you, share it on Twitter and name the author or source. Share cool things that other people have made, not just things you have made. Just learned a new fact? Great – some other people might love to know it. This is what stars and big companies always do for each other, however at the start you have to do it for free to get more Twitter followers. Sure when you have got 500k followers you might be asked to endorse products, but at the start you have to do it for free.

    5. Don’t Be A Faker. There are so many of the same people on Twitter. Change it up a bit – if you are secretly incredibly lazy and love pizza, don’t pretend to be some super productive health junkie. (I actually just read about this and thought it was crazy!), Supposedly, this gives the appearance that you hold guru like status and are highly revered. This is short term however, and a cheeky way to get an apparently God like status. It can give you the appearance that you get more Twitter followers than people who follow you, but do this at your own risk, there may be some repercussions.

    7. Be An Expert. Sure Paris Hilton isn’t an expert at anything that we can see,(oops, did I say that?!) however she is hot & famous, which is more than enough to get more Twitter followers than your average Twit, lol. If you are just on Twitter to showcase your day with your friends and you want to get more followers, unless you are ridiculously good looking or super funny, you need to have something to offer. Whether you are just really good at programming, know how to get 8 pack ab muscles or build origami houses – you need to have something great to offer. Drop random knowledge bombs and hacks for people to help them and you will get people thanking you and mentioning you – all of this helps to get more Twitter followers.

    When it’s all said and done, Twitter is nothing more than just becoming friends with people. Strangely enough, not many people try to get a whole lot of Twitter friends in the same way that they do on Facebook. Just remember, if you buy a whole lot of Twitter fans who sit there and do nothing, it isn’t going to do you any favors. What do you do if you want to make more friends in real life? You wouldn’t go and buy them. Twitter is real life, it is just on a cyber platform – the people are real, remember this and you will get more Twitter followers.

    If you are a great person, funny and interesting, people with common interests will naturally want to interact with you. Don’t be annoying or nag people, just be like how you would be with your friends and family. If you struggle to get more Twitter followers, start friending more people and being of service to them.     However when you Tweet, realize that you are not famous and nobody cares about you personally yet – you have to do something, say something or show something cool, interesting or funny as well as provide value.

    This is just how the world works, and Twitter is no exception. If you bring nothing to the table, why would somebody want to be friends with you?   7. Keep it Classy: How to Handle Negative Comments on Social Media

    dislike_thumbsSocial media is a powerful tool for engaging your customers, but it can also be a double-edged sword. Web 2.0 has largely put the fate of businesses’ reputations in the hands of consumers. Arizona restaurant Amy’s Baking Company learned this the hard way when they engaged in perhaps the most out-of-control brand meltdown in Facebook history. Take some cues from the fiery owners of Amy’s so that you know what not to do in response to negative social mentions.

    What NOT to Do

    Never Reply in All Caps

    The owners, Amy and Samy, posted quite a few of their status updates in all caps, no doubt to add emphasis. This is basic online etiquette and should go without saying, but on the internet, typing in all caps is considered shouting. Not only that, but readers don’t take you seriously when you do it. You don’t need to add extra emphasis to your message. Let the words carry themselves.

    Do Not Reply to Everyone

    Amy’s Baking Company quickly gained popularity on Reddit when a member posted a video of the restaurant when it was featured on Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. The video drew a slew of comments, which the owners drew attention to on Facebook. This in turn drew a slew of Facebook comments, which drew more responses from the owners. You can see how this can escalate quickly. Not all negative comments warrant a response.

    Do Not Name Call

    The owners called respondents names like “idiots,” “little kids,” and even went so far as to use profanity in their Facebook updates. This should also go without saying, but don’t call your customers names. Even if they insult your product, insult your wife, and question your parenting abilities – just don’t do it.

    Leave Out Your Personal Views

    The Amy’s rants contained quite a few uncomfortable comments about religion. Your goal should be to resolve the problem, not to have a rousing debate or convince others of your beliefs. Even if the customer is the one trying to engage you in discussions about religion or politics, stick to the issue at hand.

    Do Not Engage in Public Arguments

    As Amy and Samy have proven, public disputes tend to draw attention. You don’t want your customers to see you as unprofessional and combative. Avoid hashing out disagreements for all of your followers to see.

    Do Not Blame the Customer

    Samy ended one status update in which he was defending the restaurant’s prices with “Do not blame us because you cannot afford quality.” Even if the customer is scathing in their rebuke of your practices, avoiding putting the blame back on them. You don’t want to come off as a business owner who responds to criticism by avoiding responsibility.

    Do Not go on Television and Behave Badly

    Viral video is real. If ever your business is featured on television, put your best face forward and avoid unprofessional behavior. Otherwise, you could find yourself with more negative social mentions than you can handle.

    Reply with Empathy

    Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and try to understand why they’re upset. Try to imagine how you would want a business owner to respond in that situation.

    Ask Questions

    Amy and Samy are also notorious for their indignant replies to negative restaurant reviews on Yelp. Instead of being defensive, try to clarify the situation and determine why the customer is unhappy. This also shows that you’re serious about getting the issue resolved.

    Stay Professional

    Avoid injecting your personal opinions and beliefs into the conversation. Make the goal to resolve the conflict at hand, not to win an argument.

    Hold Conversations Privately

    Instead of handling the negative mention in the comments section, invite the customer to call or email your customer support department. If necessary, encourage them to contact you directly.

    Moderate Your Social Media

    Trolls do exist. Just because someone is dissatisfied with your business doesn’t give them permission to post spam and flame your Facebook page. Create a social media policy, make it available to the public, and boot those who violate it.

    Take Advantage of Constructive Criticism

    Sometimes a customer’s negative social mention can help you to improve your products and services for the future. Use feedback to your advantage when it is constructive instead of dismissing it.

    Apologise When Needed

    Never act too big to apologise if the problem was on your end. A simple apology can do a lot to diffuse the situation.

    For the most part, social media is meant to yield positive results for businesses. However, as in the real world, businesses should be prepared to deal with unhappy customers from time to time. This isn’t always a bad thing. Constructive feedback can help you improve your business in the future. As for destructive feedback, you can always hit the block button.
